This bay, which extends half a mile inland on the southwest shore of Žirje, is popular among sailors, but I have never found it particularly appealing. Perhaps this is because of the former army buildings above the bay, or the houses on the north shore. There are often twenty or so yachts here at anchor, or rather, moored to the buoys, of which there are twenty-five. These provide safe mooring in all winds and the usual delights of anchoring. However, since the bay is exposed to the jugo, even the buoys do not provide comfort when the wind is strong. In such conditions, the waves crash at the base of the bay and create swell. It is better then to sail out and go to the lee of nearby Kaprije or Kakan. Only two miles south of Tratinska is the excellent fishing area around Kosmarka, Vrtlač and Babuljak islands, and the inhabitants of Tratinska are often seen fishing here in summer. There are usually fish for sale, too. A mile further southwest is one of the most picturesque Adriatic lighthouses, Blitvenica, so if you have time, sail out to it, and take some photographs from your boat for your holiday album.
