Budihovac (Vis)

Budihovac (Vis)

The little island of Budihovac boasts one of the prettiest lagoons on the Adriatic. The white, shingle beach, usually only found in the Podbiokovlje area, is protected on the west shore of Budihovac by Mali Budihovac and Sanak Rock, and the shallows between them. The sea is clear and transparent, and the lagoon is regularly visited by bathers on small boats and yachts. It is no wonder, with all this beauty to enjoy. The lagoon is shallow, only 3 metres deep, and can only be reached from the south, between Veliki and Mali Budihovac, where the depth is just 2 metres, so many people drop anchor on the outer side of the lagoon. It is well sheltered from the bura and jugo, and the maestral is not too strong here, so you can spend the night in the lagoon without any problems. There is one mooring weight in the lagoon, which you can only reach by diving. Since my boat has a draught of 2.5 metres, I cannot take advantage of it, but I enjoy the solitude in the well-sheltered cove in the bay opposite, facing east, where it is safe during the maestral and jugo. There are the remains of an old summer residence on the island, and Pere Pojor keeps sheep and tends a small vineyard, serving feta cheese and wine to visitors. If you enjoy long-line fishing and have a licence, the rocky shoreline is a good place to try catching dentex. However, the secret of where, at what time of day, and with what equipment, is well kept.
