If you anchor in this bay, which is one of the largest on the south shore of Dugi Otok, you will be near one of the finest beaches on the Adriatic, and you will be able to swim in water which refracts hundreds of shades of turquoise. It is an unforgettable place. The only thing which spoils the virgin beauty of this bay, which it retained until only about fifteen years ago, is its recent popularity. There are always about thirty boats at anchor here, mostly during the day, and the beach is accessible by car, so it is crowded. At night, the boats depart, so if you decide to stay, you will only enjoy peace and quiet through the night hours, until about ten o’clock in the morning, when it all starts up again. Drop anchor in the sandy bed and imagine yourself on a Caribbean or Polynesian island. Only the palm trees are missing. Firs and pines take their place on the shore. If you have a snorkel and flippers, put them on and explore the bay. You can swim to the shore or take the dinghy, have a drink in the almost finished beach bar, but do not leave your boat if the jugo is blowing, because Sakarun is completely exposed to this wind (to which it owes its lovely, sandy beach). Anchor in the sand at a depth of about 10 metres, but choose a spot nearer to the west shore if the maestral is blowing. Part of the bay is roped off for bathers. About 20 buoys were placed in the water in 2009.
