You will often find good anchorages alongside major sea passages. Ždrilca on the Pakleni Islands, Ždrilac between Ugljan and Pašman, both the Kornati Proverses, Ilovik and this one, Zapuntel, are the most famous. If you drop anchor here, you will be close to the seasonal traffic, so as well as relaxing at anchor, bathing, taking a siesta or enjoying a meal on board, you will also be able to watch the boats and yachts passing by. So an important piece of equipment to have is a pair of binoculars. While it is true that the swell of the passing boats will rock you somewhat, it is all part of the summer yachting scene. In Zapuntel passage, through which many sailors pass in the summer months, whether going from Rab or Pag to Ist, Brgulje or Pantera on Dugi Otok, there are two usual places to drop anchor, both equipped with buoys in recent years. The first is Mljake Bay on Ist, in the north section of the passage, and the other is just opposite, in Porat Bay on Molat. When sailing into Mljake from the southwest, watch out for the shallows by the shore and Skrivalica Rock. Mljake offers good shelter in all conditions except for the bura, which creates choppy water by the east entrance to the passage. It is mostly about 4 metres deep, apart from a shallower area on the southeast side. If there are no free buoys, anchor just outside the bay, in the sandy and silty bed, at a depth of about 8 metres. Mljake is an uninhabited, beautiful bay, so you will be able to relax completely. If you prefer a different atmosphere, try Porat, the harbour for Zapuntel, an island village about one and half kilometres inland. There are several houses, a haven with moorings, and, most importantly, two taverns, so you can get back to civilisation. Walk to Zapuntel, with its large, fertile fields, or climb Knežak Hill (141m), from where there is a fine view of the entire passage.
