Most sailors who sail into this two-mile long bay, which ends at the spring and the short course of the River Omble, are aiming for the ACI Miho Pracat marina in Komolac. But those who enjoy anchoring, or find the marina already full, which can happen in the busiest part of the year, particularly in August, can do so a few hundred metres west of the entrance. I have never done so myself, but I have frequently sailed past boats anchored there. Most of them are owned by sailors who spend a lot of time at sea, make long journeys and prefer not to pay marine charges, and some of them just love anchoring for its own sake. Anchoring depths are between 6 and 15 metres, and the bed is silty, so purchase is good. Anchoring is not permitted in front of the marina entrance, but you can choose your spot by the north shore, between the villages of Obuljeno and Čajkovići. There are more villages along the shore, of which the largest are Sustjepan, Mokošica, Rožat and Komolac. The entire bay is well-protected from all winds except the bura, which can be strong. The normal sea current is about 1.5 knots, heading out to sea, but it can change direction with the tide. You may be a little disturbed by the traffic, as boats enter and leave the marina. But this will be set off by the advantages – take the dinghy and visit the shops, bars, the excellent restaurant in Komolac, or visit the River Omble and springs, moor on the waterfront and enjoy a meal in Vimbula restaurant. Rijeka Dubrovačka was the area chosen by the Dubrovnik nobility for their summer residences, because of its fresh summer breezes. The biggest, best-known of them belonged to the Sorkočević family, in Komolac, right next to the marina. You can reach Dubrovnik easily by taxi or bus. There is a fuel station by the marina.
