When you enter the Korčula Channel from the west, intending to spend the night there before continuing on to Korčula in the morning, when there will be no problem finding a mooring, you can do so in Račišće, Kneža, the lagoon behind Mali and Veli Knežak islands, or in Žrnovska Banja or Vrbovica. The NW section of Kneža Bay is protected by the islands and forms a sandy lagoon, sheltered from winds from the 3rd and 4th quadrants. Kneža is a rather romantic anchorage, where you will be alone at night. You should anchor west of Mali Knežak, at a depth of 5 or 6 metres, as this is the best sheltered spot, and there is good purchase in the sandy and silty bed. If the bura is blowing, tie up stern to shore. Sail round the island to the south, as the passage to the north is very shallow, only one metre deep. Often, an old sailing-ship which has been transformed into a floating hotel arrives in the bay during the morning, staying for several hours, but you could use this intrusion as an excuse to go ashore and visit Korčula, the town of Marco Polo.
