If you stay at anchor in Šunj Bay on Lopud for the entire day and night, you will glimpse two completely different aspects of the resort. During the day, it is the most popular beach on the Elafiti Islands, full of little boats bringing bathers from Dubrovnik, and the bars and beach restaurant are always full of life. However, the base of the bay, with its sandy beach, is shallow, so you should anchor at least 200 metres from the end, where the bustle will not disturb you. Whenever I anchor here, I like to swim, take the dinghy to the beach, or sit below the palm tree canopies and enjoy a drink, and I often walk to the little church of Our Lady of Šunj, on the hill overlooking the east shore of the bay. It was built by the Venetian aristocrat, Visconti, in the 12th century. At dusk, the little boats and bathers leave the bay, and only those staying the night at anchor remain, so you will be able to enjoy the peaceful, romantic atmosphere. You can do so in all weather conditions, unless the jugo is blowing, to which the bay is exposed. Anchor in the sandy bed, partially covered in sea grass, at a depth of between 5 and 15 metres, where there is relatively good purchase. Bear in mind that, during a strong jugo, sandbanks form at the base of the bay, so the depths are uneven. As you sail in from the SW, mind the rocks and shallows by the SW point. If SE winds are blowing, sail around the island and anchor in Lopud Bay, in front of the beach, at a depth of 10 metres, in the sandy and silty bed.
