Due to its location, Raša Bay is not on the most popular nautical routes, and many sailors or skippers of motorised yachts, who have visited most corners of the Adriatic, have never discovered it. It has no marina or harbour, and the villages along its shoreline are little known. I have been there many times, and have twice dropped anchor and stayed the night in Tunarica Cove. Raša Bay is about six and a half miles long and half a mile wide, with depths up to 44 metres at the entrance, reducing to 5 metres at Bršica, which of course makes it highly navigable. The fact that it is off the main routes is an advantage, because it is never crowded and you can find solitude there. The only village on the shoreline is Trget, where several boats are moored or anchored permanently, and where Martin Pescador, one of the best restaurateurs in the area, runs a tavern. There is another tavern in Tunarica Cove, along with a campsite. You can buy shellfish everywhere, because there are many shellfish farms in the coves on the east side of the bay. The sides of the bay are steep and covered in stunted woods, apart from in some places, where the forest is more luxuriant, such as in Tunarica, on Ubac peninsula and in Krnica. Here holly oaks are dominant, along with pines, firs, cypresses and other evergreens. At dawn and again at dusk, the bay resounds with birdsong and the back-to-nature feel is irresistible. The only blot on the horizon is the quarry by Sveti Mikula Point. There can be a strong bura in the bay, which often creates eddies, and the waves of the jugo reach right up to Luka Cove. During summer, daily winds are prevalent throughout the bay. There are anchorages in Tunarica, Blać and Teplica Coves, and you can also drop anchor in front of Trget. The best anchorage is in Tunarica, since it is clearly marked by the lighthouse on the point of the same name, and is navigable at night. The bay is well sheltered from all winds, and you can anchor at a depth of 25 metres in the middle. The dense pine woods around the bay provide wind protection. Smaller vessels tend to anchor further towards the base, by the entrance to Zavratnica Cove, tying up stern to shore (there are several stone slabs suitable for mooring). The silty bed provides good purchase. The little cove of Teplica, east of the light on Rtac Point, also provides good anchorage, particularly during the bura. Smaller vessels can moor on the two stone bollards nearby. Krnica Harbour is nearby, with its typical fishing village.
