Very few people can resist the temptation to stop and swim in the turquoise sea in the narrow, sandy passage between Knežak islet and Iž (the minimum depth is 3m). The islet boasts smooth rocks, overshadowed by evergreens which come down almost to the sea. This is a landscape which entices you to stay longer. You can also enjoy bathing or sunbathing on the sandy beach in Dolinje Cove on the Iž side of the passage. The locals think this is the prettiest cove on the island. The passage provides shelter from all winds except a strong bura or tramontana, and is a good anchorage. If the jugo is blowing, you can anchor on the north side. There are buoys along the south shore of the islet, with mooring weights of 4 tons, and there are some lighter ones on the opposite side, closer to Iž. They are managed by two concessionnaires. If you decide to drop anchor, bear in mind that the bed close to Knežak is sandy and covered in sea grass, and the depth in the middle of the passage drops to 30 metres. The third, smallest village on the island is in Knež Bay, with jetties on the shore, where you will find a place to eat. In the large house above the jetties, Knež Restaurant provides good fare. Although the place is small, it offers a range of options; anchoring, mooring to a buoy, or making fast to a jetty, depending on whether you prefer isolation or company. Watch out for Sika shallows, which are marked in the north entrance, 3 cable lengths from Knežak. You will see a pole with markings on a post marked with red and black bands.
