This bay is situated at the mouth of the Lim Gorge, and although it is half the size of nearby Soline, where you can also anchor, I prefer Sveti Križ, because it is completely isolated, whereas Soline has several tourist buildings. The thick undergrowth surrounding the bay hides the ruins of a chapel on the isthmus towards Soline. It was built in response to the legend of St. Euphemia, whose sarcophagus is said to have floated in from the sea to the cave on the north point (Sveta Fuma). There used to be a quarry at the base of the bay. The sea has worn down the stone blocks, today occupied by bathers who arrive in dinghies, but once used to crush sea snails in order to extract purple dye. Križ is a popular day-trip destination for many sailors and crews from Rovinj and Vrsar. But most of them return to their berths in the late afternoon, so you will either be alone at anchor, or with very little company. Plan to spend the evening in the cockpit, as there is nowhere to go ashore, and since the bay is exposed to W and NW winds, it is not a good idea to leave your boat unattended. Anchor in the grass-covered bed, at a depth of between 6 and 15 metres.
