This is a large, popular harbour, belonging to the Kornati archipelago, but outside the national park. It is known for its marina of the same name, located on the northwest side, and provides many opportunities for anchorage. Sometimes this happens by default, as many people in summer make for the marina, which is always full, and then are forced to drop anchor or look for a buoy in the harbour. The centre of the harbour is rather deep (30-50 metres), so only really large yachts anchor away from the shore. The usual place for smaller boats is north of the long marina jetty, at a depth of 7 or 8 metres, in the sandy bed in the part of the harbour known as Pod Ražanj. There is good purchase and you can also tie up stern to shore. Beneath Ražanj Point, which extends some way, bordering the harbour to the north, you will find shelter from W and SW winds, but the jugo or E wind will make waves on this side of Žut harbour. In such conditions it is better to move to Žešnja Cove or Babin Bok, or just in front of them, where the bed is also sandy and the depth up to 10 metres. Wherever you anchor on this side of the bay, the marina, with its shop and other benefits of civilisation, is close by, and if you sail to the base of the bay you will meet Šimica Mudronja. Only then can you really say you have been to Žut. Šimica lives in a little house in Pod Ražanj and since the death of her husband, works in the marina and produces excellent olive oil. The fare at Festa restaurant, a little further on, in Papeši, is worth trying. There is also a good restaurant in the marina. You can also drop anchor in the sandy bed in the southeast part of the harbour, Saručica Bay, at a depth of between 4 and 14 metres. Or drop anchor by Strunac Point and tie up stern to shore. There are several houses in the middle of the east section of Žut Harbour. The Bain family, who used to have an excellent inn here, where we would enjoy grilled whiting, are today in the excursion boat business. There are a few buoys anchored here for sailors to use, and these are very welcome if the bura or tramontana is blowing.
