The harbour of Pod Sveti Križ, along with Kolorat and Majiška Bays, is typical of the Adriatic charm that used to be predominant a few decades ago. This part of Cres, like most of the island, is uninhabited, and there are hardly any houses or villages, except in Ul Cove. The bays have kept their natural appearance, with only the odd jetty. There are no buoys, concessionaires, or trendy sailing facilities. This is a place to drop anchor away from the bustle of the season, where the landscape is still unspoiled. The favourite anchorages are in the two coves by Kolorat Point, which extends northwest from Sveti Damjan Point. The first is also called Kolorat, and Majiška is its neighbour. Both are excellent places to anchor, well protected from the jugo, and from the bura, unless it is blowing from the north. During the jugo, these bays are completely calm, and you will only feel the bura at the top of the mast, as low Kolorat Point provides shelter and is also covered in trees. The anchor will hold well in the sandy beds of both coves. The bases are very shallow and you should not venture too close to the shore. The coves are also good anchorages in winter. There are no villages nearby. Dawn and dusk are particularly beautiful here, as they are on this part of Cres in general. The whole area is covered in holly oak forests, and it is a game reserve, with deer and roe particularly prevalent. If you are patient and keep still, you will probably see a doe with its fawn emerging from the forest and venturing down to the water. Some are bold enough to approach boats only ten metres away. There are many reefs and shallows in Pod Sveti Križ Bay, so be careful as you sail in and out.
