You will recognise the entrance to uninhabited Kristofor Bay, two miles southeast of Sveta Mara, by the lighthouse on Kanitalj Point, which protects it from W winds. It is recessed a good 800 metres inland, and in the last section, divides into two arms. There are reefs in front of the northwest arm, so you should not attempt to sail here in a larger boat. You can anchor throughout the bay, where the depth is 8 metres in the middle, reducing to 2 metres towards the base. The bed is hard sand, providing good purchase. There are two dolphins on the shore of the east arm, which provides good shelter from W and N winds, and somewhat less shelter from the jugo. The waves of the powerful spring jugo reach to the base of the bay, and the bura creates slight swell. The atmosphere in the bay is similar to the southern Dalmatian islands. The sea in the outer section is deep blue, changing suddenly to turquoise as you near the base. The only difference between this bay and Dalmatia is that the pine forest on the shore gives way to a dense wood of holly oak, which grows throughout the peninsula.
