The harbor of Pod Sveti Križ, where, there are several other coves in addition to the Kolorat and Majiška, offers the type of atmosphere that prevailed along the Adriatic several decades ago. This part of Cres, as well as most of the island, is uninhabited. There are nearly no villages or houses except along the cove of Ul. The coves have retained their natural appearance. We only come upon a few small moles. There are no buoys, concessionaires or fashionable sailors.

Mainly those who want to escape crowds and enjoy unsullied nature come here to anchor. Sailors’ favorite anchorages are in the two coves beneath the cape of Rt Kolorat, which extends northwest as a continuation of the cape of Rt Sveti Damjan. The first cove, like the cape, is called Kolorat, and next to it is the cove of Majiška. Both are excellent anchorages, well sheltered from the south wind (jugo) and from the north wind (bura) until the wind starts blowing harder from the north. When the south wind is blowing, calm prevails in the coves, and when the north wind is blowing, it only strikes boat sails because the cape of Rt Kolorat protecting the coves is low lying but covered with trees.

Both coves are under concession. 24 buoys are anchored in Kolorat, while in Majiška there are 6. An anchor holds well in either of them, owing to the sandy sea bottom. The waters off the tips of the coves are very shallow so they should not be approached. These coves are even good anchorages under winter conditions.

There is no village in the vicinity. Moreover, here, as in the other coves in this part of Cres, you can enjoy beautiful dawns and twilights. Since this entire part of Cres is overgrown with holm oak, and is also a hunting ground, the forest is full of game, especially deer. If you are patient and do not make any noise, you will certainly see a doe and her fawn when they come out from the woods to drink some seawater. Some will come as close as ten meters to a boat. The entire harbor of Pod Sveti Križ has numerous ridges and shallows, so be careful when sailing in or out.
