The waterfront of the newest, and now largest settlement on the Island of Korčula is a frequent choice for sailors sailing around the western coast of the island.

There is no marina here, and the nautical infrastructure is poor, so the best choice is to moor on the waterfront, especially since it provides moorings. This waterfront used to be the main dock in the town, but has been given over to sailors since a new ferry dock was built many years ago. There is not much room, around 25 berths, and if you cannot find a free one, you can always anchor in front of the waterfront or tie up to one of the twenty or so buoys placed to the north of the waterfront ili u novoj Marini Korkyra. The depth by the waterfront is around 4m and the silty bed holds well. Vela Luka is a newer settlement and is therefore not as picturesque as older Adriatic small towns, characterised by a mixture of Renaissance atmosphere and Mediterranean architecture. However, it is a small town full of joy and singing. But it is a town. It is famous for harmony singing, (klapa singing). Here you can hear both popular and traditional klapa songs, especially during festivals held around the holiday of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (15 August). For years, Vela Luka was the headquarters of an international sculpture workshop, so there are many contemporary sculptures scattered around the town, including some by Henry Moore. But what will attract you most is sailing in Vela Luka Bay. Swimming by the islets of Ošjak and Proizd, or in Gradina Cove, is one of the best bathing experiences in the Adriatic.
