Rasotica is a relatively small bay, below a tiny village of the same name, with only three or four houses, which are occupied only in summer. The rest have been abandoned or are in ruins, but I have no doubt they will be restored one day. I used to come here from Makarska, which is six miles away, on an almost daily basis, have a swim, and collect date-shells for supper. These are now a protected species and their collection is rightly prohibited. Since I now have a bigger boat, I continue to come almost every year, and spend a day and night here. There are often a dozen small boats for company during the day, but at night only two or three stay, even though the bay is recessed almost half a kilometre inland, and is well sheltered from all winds except E and SE winds. It is not always easy to anchor here. The most recessed part, which is safest, is also the narrowest, and there is only room for two or three boats, while the outer section is over 20 metres deep in the middle, which can make anchoring a challenge. When I can, I anchor in the middle at the base of the bay, between the two little arms, at a depth of five metres, and tie up stern to shore on the rocks between the arms. The shore is steep, so it is easier to swim from your boat, but if you want to go ashore, there is a small waterfront in the north arm and a small jetty in the west arm, where you can tie up your dinghy. The bay used to be surrounded by thick woods, but forest fires virtually destroyed them in the last two decades, and they are only just beginning to recover.
